Charla de Arthur Perais "So you want to be a computer architect?" 14/10/2021, 12:00, Salón de actos

This talk will present my experience of how an industry CPU design team operates and what can be some ways to impact the design. It will also attempt to provide insights on the interest of doing an industry stay within a product team (not R&D) when the end goal is to find a permanent posting in academia.

Dr. Arthur Perais (http://aperais.fr/) obtained his PhD in Computer Science from University of Rennes in 2015, where he worked on microarchitectural techniques to improve processor performance. He then moved on to industry, participating to the design of a datacenter class Arm-based processor family (Centriq) at Qualcomm and to the design of the control processor of a quantum computer at Microsoft. He is now an associate researcher in the TIMA laboratory of CNRS in Grenoble, France. His research focuses on all ways to improve general purpose processor performance, mostly at the microarchitectural level.
