In the research group Bioinformatics (NG 4), we are offering the position of a

PhD student
(salary dependent on qualifications and experience in accordance with public sector wage scale TVoeD up to grade E 13/50%).

The contract is initially limited to two years, with an option for a one year extension. The position is part-time to allow an opportunity for independent research dedicated to completion of doctoral work.

Tasks and responsibilities
• Development and optimization of bioinformatics algorithms and statistical procedure for the detection of bacterial infection chains

• Data analysis for next generation sequencing data and collaboration on interpretation and validation jointly with experimental groups

• Integration of epidemiological and bioinformatics results

• Development of bioinformatics software and pipelines and support in the translation of research projects to routine analyses pipelines in our core facility

• Publication of results and presentation at scientific meetings
 
Profile

• University Degree (on a master's level) in a quantitative field (e.g. (bio-) informatics, mathematics, statistics, physics, quantitative biology)

• Experience in the development of algorithms or statistical procedures

• Experience in the analysis of high-dimensional, complex data and in the validation and interpretation of results

• Good programming skills

• In-depth knowledge and practical experience in at least one of the following fields is of advantage:
o Biostatistics, computational statistics, machine learning, graphical models
o Programming and software development
o Phylogenomics or population genomics
o Molecular biology, microbiology and infection biology
o Epidemiology

• Required language skills (CEFR-level): advanced knowledge of English (at least C1), basic knowledge of German (A 2) is of advantage
