Justification

This program intends to meet all the training requirements to obtain a Master's Degree in Mammal Reproduction Biology and Technology with a clear view to job placement (Private enterprise, Research Centers or Universities). For this purpose, the program includes a series of courses whose core content intends to provide students with basic knowledge of the reproduction process, and another set of courses with practical and methodological content whose objective is for students to gain mastery, through repeated practical training, of the reproduction techniques currently in use on mammals. The key species to be studied are humans, swine, and bovines, although training will also be performed on others such as equines, small ruminants, and rodents.

Skills

Students that complete the official Master's degree in Mammal Reproduction Biology and Technology will acquire the following skills:

  • They will acquire in-depth and up-to-date knowledge on the anatomic, physiologic, and histologic bases of the reproduction process in mammals generally, and more specifically in human beings and livestock (bovines, swine, equines, goats, and sheep).
  • They will be capable of working in a human or animal reproduction laboratory and performing techniques on their own, including preparing culture mediums, manipulating gametes, artificial insemination, in vitro maturation, in vitro fertilization, intracytoplasmic sperm injection, embryo culture, embryo transfer, cryopreservation of gametes and embryos, diagnostic ultrasound of ovulation and gestation, semen analysis, database management, and cytogenetic studies, among others.
  • They will be familiar with the legal and ethical provisions that regulate their actions in working with both humans and animals for slaughter.

Applicant Profile

The applicant profile that is most likely to successfully complete the Master's program is that of students who have obtained undergraduate degrees in Veterinary Medicine, Medicine, Biology, Biochemistry, Pharmacy, Environmental Science, and Chemistry as well as Agronomy and Chemical Engineering.

Alumni Profile

The official Master's degree in Mammal Reproduction Biology and Technology is aimed at providing students with specific skills that will give them the following profile:

  • In-depth and up-to-date knowledge on the anatomic, physiologic, and histologic foundation of the reproduction process in mammals in general, and more specifically in humans and livestock (bovines, swine, equines, goats, and sheep).
  • They will be capable of working in a human or animal reproduction laboratory and performing techniques on their own, including preparing culture mediums, manipulating gametes, artificial insemination, in vitro maturation, in vitro fertilization, intracytoplasmic sperm injection, embryo culture, embryo transfer, cryopreservation of gametes and embryos, diagnostic ultrasound of ovulation and gestation, semen analysis, database management, cytogenetic studies, among others.
  • They will know the legal and ethical provisions that regulate their actions in working with both humans and animals for slaughter.
