The Doctoral Programme in History, Geography and History of Art: Society, Territory and Heritage at the University of Murcia counts on a long tradition of prestigious doctorates in the Faculty of Arts. Its potential comes from the bachelor’s and master’s degrees taught by the four Departments involved in this programme. In recent years, this programme has experienced a significant increase in student nunbers, not only from the UMU itself, but also from other Spanish and foreign universities. Following the current guidelines at the different levels of Higher Education, according to which the student must acquire relevant skills and competences at each stage and in the branch of knowledge to which they belong, this doctorate programme aims to complete candidates’ training in the field of research.
With our consolidated research groups, we also aim to contribute to generate knowledge that has a high scientific impact. The members will therefore advise and guide the doctoral student throughout a training process which leads to the preparation of the Doctoral Thesis and related publications.
In short, taking the Strategic Research Plan of the University of Murcia as a reference, this programme has as its main objectives:
- To promote the training of new researchers according to current international standards of quality in doctoral training.
- To strengthen the consolidation of quality research in the fields of Archaeology, History, History of Art, and Geography of the University of Murcia.
- To establish channels for the exchange of knowledge between lecturers and students in national and international centres and universities, by means of general agreements and specific expert collaborations.
- To produce high quality publications, promoting the internationalisation and the maximum scientific impact of our research groups.
