PhD in Organisational Information and Communication Management

Doctorado en Gestión de la Información y de la Comunicación en las Organizaciones

The principal aim of doctorate studies is generally speaking to train new researchers in advanced research so they will be able to face the challenge of the generation, transfer and productive framework of knowledge. This PhD programme in particular fosters as its core idea the development of studies and research regarding the current importance of adequate information and communication management at the heart of all organisations. This is done by considering information as an ecosystem, in which information and communication flows turn into a dynamising and generating element of added value that enables better strategic management of organisations.

From this point of view, both disciplines change from being a simple instrumental resource to being valuable assets in organisations, based on the impact of digital technology on the management and development of communication processes, considering novel aspects such as mobile technologies and content, social media and the management and possible re-use of large volumes of data.

The strength of this doctoral programme is determined by (a) the lecturers’ extensive careers in the area of Information and Communication; (b) the high interconnectivity of this doctoral programme with other duly accredited and qualifications updated to the European Higher Education Area (EHEA) nationwide and worldwide; (c) the proactive view of information and communication and its management versus other classical concepts, which are trapped in a paradigm of reactive provision of services, and (d) the foreseeable high dissemination of results of the research developed, especially in the Spanish and Ibero-American area due to the high demand and interest. The programme also integrates a long history of research in the field of information and communication, with consecutive projects since 1994 funded both regionally and nationally, outstanding international collaborations and relevant scientific production. The said research production is complementary to the synergy between information management and design/analysis of processes and collaborative platforms of communication in digital environments.

The strategic value of these research lines is patently clear for the analysis, improvement and proposal of new information and communication architectures, as well as the development of new “info-communicational” models, and, to this end, setting an area of maximum interest for Science development.
