Doctorado en Biodiversidad y Gestión Ambiental

The Doctoral Programme in Biodiversity and Environmental Management is the result of bringing the programme into compliance with RD 99/2011, thereby integrating research lines from other doctoral programmes regulated by RD 778/1998 of 20 April (Management of Water Living Resources and Aquaculture, Sustainable Use and Protection of Soils in Mediterranean Environments, Technology, Water Administration and Management and Forensic Sciences).

The Doctoral Programme in Biodiversity and Environmental Management aims to train tertiary cycle students to obtain their PhD. qualification through a set of activities aimed at acquiring the skills and abilities related to quality scientific research. The programme also aims to train researchers who contribute to the continuous advance of both basic and applied science, and thus have a positive impact on the composition of institutional research groups; forming part of R&D Departments in companies specialised in Production Technology as well as in companies dealing with Natural Resources and their transformation.

The Doctoral Programme in Biodiversity and Environmental Management, at the International School of Doctoral Studies of the University of Murcia (EIDUM) counts on lecturers and researchers from the following departments: Ecology and Hydrology, Zoology and Physical Anthropology, Plant Biology (Botany), Social and Health Sciences (Toxicology), Agricultural Chemistry, Geology and Edaphology and the Centre for Edaphology and Applied Biology of the Segura (CEBAS-CSIC). The participation of lecturers and researchers from the University of Concepción (Chile) offers opportunities for joint direction and supervision of doctoral students in a clear process of internationalisation of the programme and its staff.

Besides the different training components included in the programme, it also offers procedures and research lines for doctoral theses that deepen and complement the scientific aspects included in related master's studies and provide a wide range of training related to the knowledge and preservation of biodiversity and the environment in general terms.

The programme offers the following research lines: 1) Biodiversity, Operation and Management of Continental Water Ecosystems; 2) Biodiversity, Natural Reserves and Global Change. Tools, Models and Applications; 3) Ecology and Management of Marine Ecosystems; 4) Biomonitoring of environmental contaminants: assessment of exposure and effects; 5) Systematics, Evolution, Biogeography and Animal Conservation; 6) Zoology and Physical Anthropology. Basis and application to management and conservation; 7) Botany: Biodiversity, systematics and molecular phylogeny. Conservation management. Aquatic and Terrestrial Systems. Biodiversity and management of fungi. Paleoecology and climate change. Ethnobiology. Design and Management of Agrosystems. Geobotany; 8) Soil Management, Preservation and Recovery; 9) Bioremediation of Soils and Organic Waste; 10) Sustainability of Soil-Plant Systems.
