Goals

Two are the main goals of the museum: to allow university students to study Comparative Anatomy (teaching), and to display a selection of anatomical specimens for institutional and external visits (popularization of anatomical knowledge).

Teaching

Veterinary students study Osteology of the Domestic Animals in the museum. Postgraduate veterinary students also visit the museum for their postgraduate studies (master). Biology and Medicine students also come to the museum to study Human Evolution and its Adaptations to the Environment. On the other hand, plastinated specimens are commonly used in the Minimally Invasive Surgery Centre (CCMI) for postgraduate medical and veterinary courses. Occasionally, veterinary students from subjects others that anatomy, veterinary and medical practitioners, archaeologist, etc also come to the museum for anatomical reviewing.

Popularization of anatomical knowledge

The museum can be visited by any person interested in Comparative Anatomy. No need to say that primary and secondary schools are always welcomed for popularization of the anatomical knowledge. Every year the University of Murcia establishes a schedule of visits for life sciences candidates so as to have a quick look into the Veterinary Anatomy. Also, the museum is always shown to any academic visitor of the Veterinary Faculty. On the other hand, since 2003 the museum has got an important participation in several public and private exhibitions.
