History

Since the beginning of the Veterinary Faculty one of the goals of the Anatomy Unit was to supply students with good quality material for their practical lectures. The same year the Faculty was opened (1982) some skeletons and many osteological specimens were set up.

Every year the number of specimens increased significantly. Not only skeletons and bones but also joints with ligaments and tendons were introduced. The space became insufficient and in 1990 a small museum was opened in the dissection room of the definitive building of the Veterinary Faculty. Shortly, the space was lacking again. More and more specimens, many of them plastinated organs, gathered the inventory every year. Finally, by 2000 a definitive place was designed to house the anatomical collection. Although it is located in the basement of the dissection room the new space has been progressively refurbished so as to allow teaching and visiting in comfortable conditions. The latest improvement was carried out in 2008 when the walls, roof, shelves, tables and chairs have been totally renewed.
