null ERAMUS+ PROJECT EMEDIATOR FINAL STAGE

The Software Engineering Group at the University of Murcia has collaborated on the European project Ecosystem for European Education Mobility as a Service: Model with Portal Demo (eMEDIATOR). This project will conclude in October 2023, and in conjunction with research teams from other European countries such as Germany, Greece, Poland, and Latvia, an integrated service model has been developed to enhance student mobility in European universities. In particular, the Spanish node has developed a competence model aimed at addressing the needs that arise with mobility in education as a service (Educational Mobility as a Service, EMaaS). EMaaS is an educational philosophy that aims to break geographical barriers that have hindered more flexible and personalized learning in traditional education. This new trend revolutionizes education by offering educational alternatives that were unthinkable in the past. It focuses on the use of technology and digital services to promote student mobility. The key feature is that education is not limited to a specific location but can be offered in multiple places, contexts, and experiences. In this sense, EMaaS aims to enable students to access courses, academic collaborations, exchange programs, and training opportunities from different institutions and countries. This enhances the diversity of learning experiences, fostering internationalization and collaboration among institutions. To achieve these goals with EMaaS, administrative processes are simplified so that planning, monitoring, and accreditation of international studies do not pose barriers that may hinder students' mobility options.

The members of the Software Engineering Group, Juan Manuel Carrillo de Gea, Joaquín Nicolás Ros (principal investigators), Begoña Moros Valle, José Luis Fernández Alemán, Ambrosio Toval, Manal Kharbouch, and Alberto García Berná, are participating in the European project along with research groups from countries such as Germany (University of Allen), Greece (University of Ioannina), Poland (University of Lodz), and Latvia, the leader team (Riga Transport and Telecommunication Institute in Riga).

eMEDIATOR project, the final stage of the project is being completed

During the project, several online meetings have been conducted between the nodes to consolidate the work results at all stages. The latest one focuses on the use of Artificial Intelligence with natural language processing techniques to expand the model's functionality. This aims not only to store academic competences but also to automatically manage their introduction into the system, tagging and searching for competences, as well as matching.

The semi-automatic introduction of competences allows extracting competences from existing teaching guides to fill the model with new competences. This keeps the system up to date without additional effort for managers.

Additionally, search engines based on existing taxonomies of competences are being developed. Thanks to this, competences can be located in the system by title, description, and keywords.

Currently, the main functionality being developed is competence matching. This feature obtains a similarity coefficient between collections of academic and professional competences. Through the CVs of various candidates applying for a job position, it will be possible to determine which candidate is the most suitable based on their education received.

These results are of great importance, as the use of Artificial Intelligence is revolutionizing various sectors, especially the professional one. In the process of searching for suitable job opportunities for individuals in a complex and competitive job market, it is essential to offer alternatives that lead to successful results in the personnel selection processes.
