The University of Murcia (UMU) is an international institution with over a hundred years behind it, although its origins can be traced back to the 12th century. Today, it is home to more than 30,000 students (2,000 of them from abroad), 3,000 researchers and lecturers, and an administration force counting 1,200. [Read more]
The UMU is a reference for Higher Education in southeast Spain. At the same time it is a driving force in society in the Mediterranean Basin thanks to its Campus de Excelencia Internacional Mare Nostrum (CMN).
International students rank the University of Murcia among the very best universities in Europe, while of the 83 Spanish universities, it is one of only 21 to figure simultaneously in the three most important world rankings: ARWU, THE and QS.

2. A huge choice of studies
54 degrees, 70 masters and 36 PhDs
The UMU is an all-inclusive state university offering 54 degree qualifications – five of them dual degrees – 70 masters degrees and 36 PhD qualifications in Fine Arts and Humanities, Engineering, Health Sciences, Sciences, Social Sciences and Law. [Read more]
The UMU boasts 21 university centers of which the majority are located on the Campus de Espinardo to the north of the city, the down town Campus de La Merced houses Arts and Law, Health Sciences are in El Palmar and Lorca, while Sport Sciences are on the San Javier Campus on the coast.
In addition, there is the Universidad Internacional del Mar (UNIMAR) which each year offers around one hundred summer courses in various areas of knowledge.

The UMU boasts international recognition while its quality has been tried and tested by the most important certifications. As examples, the Faculty of Veterinary Sciences is one of the few in Spain to be accredited by the European Association of Veterinary Education Establishments (EAEVE); the Faculty of Education is the only one of its type in Europe to hold the ECA Certificate for Quality in Internationalization (2016); Computer Sciences, Biology and Veterinary Sciences have all received the acreditación nacional AUDIT. The UMU has signed agreements with over 900 universities around the world and is a reference center for the European Commission thanks to the wealth of international projects that it coordinates.

4. At the vanguard in digital technology, cybersecurity and artificial intelligence
The UMU offers a wide range of services, including "Lola Chatbot", whose artificial intelligence guides students in choosing their studies and answers their questions about the enrolment process. [Read more]
The UMU is a pioneer university in e-administration with well defined strategies to become a digital university, as is borne out by our Digital Transformation Plan.
UMU research groups head European Commission cybersecurity research and innovation projects like “CyberSec4Europe”. Our University also offers a training course in cybersecurity under the speciality Networks and Telematics, part of the University’s Spanish-English bilingual Master’s Degree in New Technologies in Informatics accredited by the Euro-Inf Quality Label.

The Languages Center offers courses in 10 languages (including Spanish) at various levels, and students can certify their level of a language through officially recognized international examinations.
The UMU has students of more than 50 nationalities on its campuses, thanks to the Erasmus+ Program and specific agreements with universities in Latin America, North America, Africa and Asia.
Every year 2,000 people take part in our mobility programs, making the UMU the regional leader in internationalization and a key player in the Mediterranean area. It is a port not only to Europe but to the rest of the world.

ODSesiones is a project that the University of Murcia has set up to promote and raise awareness about the 17 UN Sustainable Development Goals.
