PhD in Veterinary Sciences

Doctorado en Ciencias Veterinarias

The PhD programme in Veterinary Sciences, belonging to the International School for Doctoral at the University of Murcia, is adapted to the European Higher Education Area as it complies with RD 1392/2007 establishing the regulations governing official university studies. In addition, the programme has been verified according to the procedures of RD 99/2011 regulating PhD teaching.

This PhD programme is the result of the merger of three previous PhD programmes: Ecopathology of Wildlife and its Implications in Animal Health and Public Health; Technology of Reproduction and Veterinary Medicine; and Professional and Scientific Pig Farming. In these three programmes, 25, 18, and 19 graduates, respectively, have obtained the title of doctor in the last five years. The quality of the doctoral theses is backed by five extraordinary doctoral awards and 140 articles published in journals included in the Journal Citation Report.

This programme aims to train university graduates in research in any of the following areas of Veterinary Sciences: Medicine, Surgery, Reproduction, Health, and Production of domestic and wild animals. It is, therefore, a comprehensive and multidisciplinary programme structured in distinctive research lines, so that each student can adjust their research training to their particular vocation. Each of the research lines offered counts on one or more university research teams with accredited experience in a specific area, as well as external collaborators from prestigious research centres.

The doctoral research training includes the development of skills and competences related to research that enable doctoral students to design and execute a research project and to analyse, interpret, apply, and disseminate their results; firstly under a supervisor, and autonomously later in their professional life. The programme aims to promote the mobility among future doctors, collaboration, and transfer relations between organisations and/or companies, as well as a continuous updating and participation in scientific forums, all within a scientific context and under an ethical commitment.
