PhD in Law

Doctorado en Derecho

The PhD programme in Law is designed to foster advanced legal research activity by means of applying research methods in Law. It is the final stage of training for law graduates in the sector of Legal Sciences and aims to combine the consolidation of the knowledge acquired  with the development of those competences and skills needed for the teaching and professional world.

The PhD programme in Law provides the students with the theoretical and methodological tools needed for carrying out high-quality legal research. In addition, it fosters critical thinking when discussing socio-legal key challenges, drafting research issues, and recognising gaps in the law. With the purpose of achieving this goal, tasks about innovative topics will be carried out, guiding the researcher to transfer his/her research knowledge.

The PhD programme in Law has a wide variety of research lines, linked to most sectors of the Legal System. Therefore, students will be able to study Public or Private Law and, at the same time, study both public and private legal aspects of an institution. Students must choose one research line about which they will do their doctoral thesis, the final step of doctoral studies.

The PhD programme in Law has a great number of PhDs specialised in every single aspect of the Legal System. Although there is just one PhD responsible for each research line, it must be highlighted that there are two teams of professors specialised in all the lines of Law, and that they have prestigious experience in this field. They have taken part in a numerous projects and initiatives within national and international research. Furthermore, students will have access to databases and bibliographic material to search for information for their research.
