PhD in Criminology

Official university degrees in Criminology are a recent phenomenon in Spain. They were first taught as HEI’s degrees, then as five-year degrees (2003) and, finally, from 2009 as degrees. This is the reason why some graduates and undergraduates in Criminology have been seeking a PhD programme in Criminology on its own and not for Doctoral Studies belonging to other research areas such as Law, Psychology, Sociology (…). The purpose is to include innovative research in our country with the aim of defending a doctoral thesis and attain the highest level of research studies in a field of knowledge that has official recognition at lower levels.

The University of Murcia, the University of Granada and the University of Miguel Hernández in Elche have joined resources in order to promote the development of criminological knowledge at postgraduate level in universities with the objective of achieving excellence and quality in its research.
