The European Commission has awarded a Jean Monnet Chair to Juan Jorge Piernas López, senior Lecturer at the Faculty of Law of the University of Murcia. Jean Monnet Chairs are specialised teaching posts in European Union studies for university professors and aim to deepen teaching and research in European Union studies and to foster dialogue between academia and society.

The Jean Monnet Chair is entitled The Transformative European Union Law Power (TEULP) and aims to promote the study of EU law among students, academics and practitioners, highlighting and explaining the important impact that EU law has on the internal legal systems of EU Member States and beyond the EU territory, directly affecting the daily lives of millions of people around the world. To this end, alongside the Chair holder, a gender-equal team of experienced and young, national and international academics will carry out numerous teaching, research and dissemination activities.
