null Update statement COVID-19 information: IN-OUT Students

In response to the situation generated by the pandemic caused by the coronavirus infection (COVID-19) and after the communication of the authorities of the Region of Murcia and the Rectorate of the University of Murcia, students of international mobility programmes are informed that teaching activities at the University of Murcia are suspended from Monday, March 16th until further notice.

We appeal for calm as well as responsibility, and we ask to follow the indications established by the competent authorities in the area where each student is located.

The University of Murcia will help and make its procedures more flexible to facilitate the completion of studies affected by this situation. In this way the following actions are recommended:

  1. Decisions about returning to the country of origin (incoming and outgoing), each student is free to make the decision he or she considers appropriate, provided that the instructions given by the competent authorities in the place where the studies/practices are currently taking place are followed. It is essential that the decision taken is communicated to their home and host tutors and to the international relations area (internacionales@um.es / incoming@um.es).
  2. In any case, if the area from which you are returning is among the called risk areas, a 14-day quarantine must be kept as indicated by the health authorities.
  3. It is important to take into account that, once a pandemic situation has been declared by WHO, if a student needs some health care abroad, he/she should follow the instructions of the authorities of the host country and avail him/herself of the health care provided there.
  4. International students at UMU. The decision to return to the country of origin is independent from how the course of the subjects being studied at UMU is completed. The centres of the University of Murcia will present their contingency plans on March 17th and they will include the guidelines for international students.
  5. UMU students in international destinations. The decision to return to Murcia is independent of how the course of the subjects being studied is completed in the destination country. In this respect, the first recommendation is to preserve the original agreement and follow the contingency plans that each university in the destination country is preparing, in order to carry on teaching in a non-attendance way and try to finish the subjects that are already being studied. In those cases where there is a problem at the host university, it is important to contact the international coordinator of the UMU centre to explain the case individually.
  6. ONLY APPLIED FOR ERASMUS+ PROGRAMME: With regard to the financial support for the different mobilities, SEPIE (ERASMUS national agency) is currently consulting the European Commission in order to be able to justify the expenditure incurred as a result of the programmed mobilities. We are awaiting more detailed information, but it is recommended to keep all the supporting documents of the expenses incurred, whether or not the mobility has been carried out.
