The
Organising Committee and the English Department of the University of
Murcia invite linguists, language professionals and students to attend
and participate in the 1st. INTERNATIONAL CONFERENCE ON DISCOURSE AND
INTERCULTURAL RELATIONS to be held at the University of Murcia (Spain)
from 23rd to 25th September 2004.
I.
CALL FOR PAPERS
We welcome
proposals on any aspect of the following disciplines: Discourse Studies,
Critical Discourse Analysis, Conversation Analysis, Cross-cultural Studies,
Intercultural Communication, Intercultural Relations, Discursive Psychology,
Pragmatics, Stylistics, Cognitive Science, etc.
Of particular
interest are proposals related to:
- Discourse and society,
the representation of social and cultural entities through discourse
etc.
- Language, power and ideology;
worldview, perception, attitudes etc.
- The construction of 'otherness'
through discourse, ethnic groups, migration, racism, intergroup conflicts
etc.
- Gender relationships,
sexual identities/politics etc.
- Culture and education,
intercultural communication and training etc.
- Cultural and intercultural
aspects of language and literature;
- The Mass media and the
construction of (inter)cultural relations.
II.
TYPE OF PRESENTATION
- Papers: 20-minute sessions,
plus 10 minutes for discussion.
- Workshops: 60-minute
sessions.
- Poster presentations:
Posters will be on display during the conference.
III.
SUBMISSION OF PROPOSALS
Abstracts
should be sent by email (preferably MS Word or RTF) to the following

Abstracts
may include up to four keywords and should be submitted using the following
format:

- Abstract (maximum 250
words, including references)
- Keywords

- Full postal address
- E-mail address
- Phone number (including
country and area code)
- Subject area
- Preferred form of presentation
(paper, poster, workshop)
- Please indicate if any
equipment is needed for your presentation (overhead projector, slide
projector etc.)

VI.
ACCEPTANCE OF PROPOSALS
Acceptance
of proposals (papers, posters and workshops) will be confirmed by 17th
May 2004.
VII.
LANGUAGES OF THE CONFERENCE
The
languages of the Conference will be English and Spanish. However, the
Committee will consider papers in other European languages.
