The objective of this Master Thesis is to: (1) analyse variety of tools and programming libraries to develop Visual Analytics; (2) the study of some specific medical problems in pharmacovigilance; (3) apply Visual Analytics methods to solve one of the problems analysed; (4) evaluation of the solution implemented.

    Resumen (Summary): The goal of this Master Thesis is the implementation and evaluation of an alert system based on rule-based reasoning to identify infection problems of a medical dataset. The knowledge base will be acquired from clinical documents and the expert knowledge (Intensive Care Unit doctors). The CDSS will be developed in Java using JBoss Drolls technology. The CDSS will be evaluated using a medical database from an ICU department.

However, knowledge engineers must establish measurements to ensure the quality, correctness and consistency of the knowledge base. The goal of this project is to develop a tool to maintain the knowledge base of a clinical alert system in the form of rules. In particular, the tool must manage: alert filtering, heuristic consistency, redundancy, etc.

    Resumen (Summary): Un algoritmo de optimización basado en el forrajeo de bacterias (Bacterial Foraging Optimization Algorithm, BFOA) está inspirado en un grupo de bacterias que funcionan en base a la búsqueda de alimentos, tales como la E.coli y el M.xanthus. Específicamente, el BFOA está inspirado en la quimiotaxis o atracción a un factor químico de la bacteria la cual percibe gradientes en su entorno (tales como nutrientes) y se mueve hacia señales específicas o se aleja de ellas. El Trabajo Fin de Máster consiste en la implementación en java de un BFOA, la integración en una plataforma de optimización bio-inspirada ya desarrollada, la comparación con otras metaheurísticas sobre un conjunto de problemas test usados en la literatura, y el análisis, discusión y publicación de resultados.
