This unified Doctoral Program includes training for PhD students in fine arts, theology and classical and modern languages. It is a broad and diverse programme, offering wide and plural possibilities for students who wish to approach research in this branch of knowledge and pursue an interdisciplinary approach to the field of Arts and Humanities.

Research Team n.1: Linguistics and Translation

1.1. Research line: English Linguistics

This research line pursues a systematic understanding of research in English linguistics, both theoretical (diachronic and synchronic) and applied, so that students can make informed decisions concerning their research work and are able, by the end of the training period, to frame their own research in the proper epistemological context.

1.2. Research line: Historical and Synchronic Linguistics.

This research line offers doctoral students the possibility to make their way as researchers in any topic related to historical and synchronic linguistics, in connection with modern languages like Spanish, Greek, Latin, French or German, as well as in ​​General Linguistics. It is based on theoretical or applied methodologies. Likewise, the doctoral student will be able to acquire the skills and competencies required to conduct a prestigious research within the international scientific community.

1.3. Research line: Translation and interpretation.

The objective of this research line is to foster advanced research training in an area of academic excellence in teaching and translation research. As a final step of an advanced training, this line aims to combine a consolidated knowledge in translation with the development of the required competencies and skills for the student to join the academic and /or professional world.

2.1. Research line: Spanish and Hispanic Literature.

This research line pursues a systematic understanding of advanced research on literature in Spanish. Learning is intended to convey a wide range of theoretical and methodological options so that students can make informed decisions and appropriately contextualize them in their research works. This programme also pursues to promote the production of knowledge, firstly as part of doctoral research and later on, by means of critical studies that contribute to progress in our field of study.

2.3. Research line: Theology.

This research line in theology seeks doctoral candidates to apply the knowledge acquired in the field of human sciences to theological research, so that this knowledge becomes, through a mutual and fruitful dialogue, clearly expressed and integrated into the fields of thought of Arts and Humanities. The programme also pursues the integration of theology in the world of normalized academic research, as it was since the birth of this branch of knowledge.

Research Team n.3: Forms of artistic expression in Humanities: Literature and Fine Arts

3.1. Research line: French and French-Language Literature, Romance, Italian and German Literature.

This research line gathers several relatively minor literary traditions in the context of doctoral studies at the University of Murcia. Learning is intended to convey a wide range of theoretical and methodological options so that students can make informed decisions and appropriately contextualize them on their research. This programme also pursues to promote the production of knowledge, firstly as part of doctoral research and later on, by means of critical studies that contribute to progress in the field of study.

3.2. Research line: Literature and Cultural Studies in English.

This research line aims at a systematic understanding of advanced research on English literature and cultural studies applied to the field of English-speaking communities. 3.3. Research line: Fine Arts

This research line makes available the teaching and research experience of teachers assigned to the Center and Department of Fine Arts of the University. The overall objective is to foster advanced research training and to create a space for academic excellence in teaching and artistic research. As a final step of this advanced training, the doctoral program aims to reach a combination of consolidated knowledge on Fine Arts and the development of the required competencies and skills to join the academic and/or professional world.
