Ecology of Global Change Faculty Position

University of Murcia, Murcia, Spain

The Ecology and Hydrology Department of the University of Murcia plays a decisive role in the study and design of conservation strategies for Mediterranean ecosystems in a semi-arid context. In the current scenario of generalised environmental change, it is vital to develop research that responds to the global challenges facing humanity in the 21st century. The overarching objective of this position is the inclusion of a senior researcher of international renown to lead the department’s research and teaching in the high-priority field of the Ecology of Global Change at the University of Murcia. This implies a direct correlation to promote the achievement of Sustainable Development Goals, especially in relation to the adoption of urgent measures against climate change and the protection and promotion of sustainable use of terrestrial ecosystems, forests and biodiversity, as well as in relation to all transversal sustainability goals included in Agenda 2030, currently being implemented by the Spanish Government.

The successful applicant will be expected to develop a strong, creative and international research program and contribute to teaching in Ecology of Global Change at the undergraduate and graduate levels. Four dimensions of global change are of critical importance:

  • Impact of climate change
  • Impact of changes in land use and the transformation of ecosystems
  • Causes and consequences of the biodiversity crisis
  • Evaluation of ecosystem services in a context of global change

In addition to state-of-the-art facilities, and internationally competitive salary, benefits and housing, the University of Murcia will provide an exciting research environment and efficient administrative and support mechanisms. There is no limitation on candidate’s nationality, race, and gender and foreign applicants are encouraged to apply.

Information on how to apply can be found http://www.educacionyfp.gob.es/servicios-al-ciudadano-mecd/catalogo/educacion/profesorado/profesorado-universitario/becas-ayudas/movilidad/beatriz-galindo.html

Remuneration: 90.000€ gross/year, including social security costs. After the 4 year distinguished researcher contract, the lecturer/researcher will be able to apply for a whole integration into the academic staff of the University of Murcia.
