At the upcoming conference researcher Paco Calvo will present a compelling talk titled “Planta Sapiens and the ‘War of Nerves’: A View from the 21st Century.” Drawing from his recent book “Planta Sapiens,” Calvo will challenge traditional anthropocentric views on cognition and sentience by exploring the fascinating world of plant intelligence.
He will delve into how plants, despite lacking a central nervous system, exhibit complex behaviors indicative of learning, decision-making, and adaptation to their environment. Calvo will discuss the ‘war of nerves,’ a metaphor for the complex and subtle communication systems plants employ, and how this redefines our understanding of intelligence.
Through his presentation, Calvo aims to shift paradigms, urging the scientific community and the public to reconsider plant life not as passive organisms, but as active, intelligent entities, thereby influencing our approach to both philosophy and science in the 21st century.
