Specific skills:    The DBA(CM) – ULL is formed by 5 professors and 20 postgraduate and PhD students. The research group involved in the project is working in several lines of research in the Macaronesian region: (i) biology and ecology of reef fish assemblages: habitat, community structure (spatial and temporal), trophic structure, age, growth; (ii) fisheries research: study of the biology, genetics and populations dynamics of halieutic resources including inshore, demersal and deep-see fish with commercial interest; (iii) biology and ecology of echinoderms; (iv) marine mammals biology and ecology; (v) biogeography of marine species (mainly fishes and anthozoa); (vi) enviromental impact assessment: biological indices, bioindicators, effect of human activities (coastal works, aquaculture, fisheries, etc.) on marine ecosystems; (vii) mapping of habitats and biodiversity (GIS); and (viii) management of marine ecosystems and conservation: MPAs, protected especies, artificial reefs. The group has long been involved with several governmental partners in implementation of Marine Protected Areas, monitoring programs and research for biodiversity conservation.

Role in the project: Participating in WPs 1, 2, 3, 4 and 6; supplying data from case studies #14 and 15
