European Sociological Association Conference, Murcia, Spain Sept 23-26 2003

The "Political Sociology Stream" aims at bringing together, for the first time in an ESA Congress, European researchers whose work is related to the basic topics of this field of research. One of our main objectives is to lay the foundations of a research network which could work as a reference for future research and encounters at a European level. One of the Congress sessions will be devoted to this organizational task.

At the theoretical and conceptual levels, classical and fundamental topics of Political Sociology may be addressed, with special attention to new approaches. Comparative research in the European, particularly Mediterranean, and Latin American areas are specially encouraged. These subjects include, but are of course not limited to:

Political socialization and education
Political cultures and identities
Policy processes and networks
Representation and citizenship
Legitimacy, trust and institutions in modern democracies
The politics of knowledge and expertise

Proposals will be grouped into thematically consistent sessions. The final programme will depend on the number and subjects of the abstracts sent to the organisers, and will be published as soon as the review task is completed and the notification of acceptance sent to all the participants, by April 30th 2003. In order to increase its usefulness to all participants, sessions will be organised following the short presentation-discussant structure. We consequently encourage all researchers thinking of attending the Congress, but not planning to present a paper, to get in touch with us to act as discussants. It is accordingly a must that papers can be circulated in advance.

Deadline for submitting an abstract is February 28th 2003. Notification of acceptance will be sent by April 30th 2003.
