European Sociological Association Conference, Murcia, Spain Sept 23-26 2003

The Research Network On Mass Media And Communications will have a full programme for the 2003 ESA Conference.  Our programme will, as usual, be eclectic, and we will not be seeking to restrict presentations either to the main conference theme or to specific topics.  We invite papers from any scholar interested in sociological approaches to understanding the mass media and communications.   We are especially interested in papers that address European themes and issues, but broader discussions on global or theoretical matters are also very welcome.

It is our intention to afford the maximum time available for discussion, rather than use all our time for truncated presentations and rushed debate.  For that reason we will as far as possible try to circulate papers in advance electronically.  Papers need not be fully developed or full length.  Work in progress, preliminary drafts, think pieces and so on are all extremely welcome. The Programme will be constructed once proposals have been received rather than to a pre-arranged agenda.   The Programme Committee comprises the Network officers Peter Golding (Loughborough), Peter Ludes (Bremen), and Rossella Savarese (Naples).

Please send papers proposals in the form of an abstract of about 250 words to the Network Chair:

Prof. Peter Golding
Dept. of Social Sciences.

Please include title, name(s) of authors, institutions of authors and contact address with telephone, fax and hopefully email address. Please also state the network title.

The main language of the working group is English, and abstracts should be submitted in English. If you wish to present in Spanish please add a note explaining that you would like to do so.

The closing date for abstracts is: 28.2. 2003
