The majority of the University's facilities and buildings are spread over two campuses: the older is La Merced, situated in the town centre, and the larger is Espinardo, just 5 km to the north of Mucia. A third campus for Medical and Health Studies is currently being built next to the suburban area known as Ciudad Sanitaria Virgen de la Arrixaca, 5 km south of the city.

The University Library (Biblioteca Universitaria)

This service has the following structure:

  • Central Services
  • Campus Libraries
  • Specialised Centres of Documentation

The Central Services are responsible for: academic acquisitions and exchanges, technical procedures, computarised library information and interlibrary loans, old books, special collections and historical archives.

Of special interest for users is the Interlibrary Loan and Computarised Library Information Service.

The Interlibrary Loan Service offers the possibility of obtaining documents (books, articles in journals) that students are not able to find in the University of Murcia. The Library Information provides the possibility of resolving information needs through the on-line database or CD-ROM.

The on-Campus Libraries include:

Campus de La Merced: «Antonio de Nebrija» Library. This library is organised in two sections: Humanities and Legal Sciences. The university's Historical Archive is also located in this library.

Campus de Espinardo: General Library of the Campus de Espinardo houses the books from different faculties and centres.

Included amongst the Specialised Centres of Documentation is the Centre of European Documentation (CDE). This centre is part of an information network that the European Commission has made available to citizens of the member states and which caters to the university community as well as to the different social and economic sectors.

Research Support Service (Servicio de Apoyo a la Investigación - SAI)

This Service brings together the units and sections with instruments and installations that, given their nature, are used by more than one department or centre. The Service is located at the Espinardo Campus and comprises the following sections:

Computer Services (Área de Tecnologías de la Información y Comunicación Aplicada - ATICA)

This service controls the development, maintenance, and management of the computer applications and resources of the University as a whole. This service is responsible not only for software and hardware, but also for the structure and services of the university computer network.

The Service is in charge of providing students with their Smart Card once they have enrolled in the University. With this card the students have access to the following university on-line information services:

  • Free-access computer rooms (ALA's): In these rooms, you will have free access to both a variety of computer applications and the Internet. If you wish to use one of these computers, you must first reserve a timeslot through the various «Secretarías Virtuales».
  • Secretarías virtuales: You will find these red machines in the majority of university buildings. You can find information regarding courses, consult academic records, as well as reserve computers in the ALA's and sports facilities.
  • Libraries: All library services will be at your disposal.

Employment Orientation and Information Service (Centro de Orientación e Información al Empleo - C.O.I.E.)

C.O.I.E. is a specialised service within the university, which informs and guides students as to post-graduation employment possibilities. If you are currently in the last year of your studies, you will be able to find information regarding placements offered by local businesses in the Region of Murcia. There is also a file on general employment opportunities for graduates. This service also organises courses on employment search techniques.

University Volunteer Service (Servicio Universitario de Voluntariado - S.U.V.)

It is the goal of the S.U.V. to promote solidarity and social conscience amongst the University Community. It carries out its task by the means of training and collaboration of volunteers and the participation of university members in the improvement and strengthening of solidarity networks in order to increase the quality of life at the University of Murcia. It seeks to achieve this by fostering co-operation between students and professors.

The S.U.V. organises two sorts of seminars:

  • Volunteer training with specific sectors of the University community
  • Seminars or courses on the spread of information.

This service is also responsible for managing the Intergenerational Housing Programme, through which students from the University of Murcia share accommodation with eldery people.
