Spanish Language and Hispanic Culture Course

This course was created for students and professionals who wish to further their knowledge of Spanish Language and to study aspects of both Spanish and Hispanic culture. It has been design to incorporate two levels.
Total Contact Hours: 289 hours.
Course dates
- First semester: From October to December.
- Second semester: From January to May.
Levels
Level I
Designed for students who have an intermediate level of Spanish and who are interested in furthering their knowledge by studying various aspects of hispanic culture.
- 1st Module: Spanish Language and Regional Culture Course. Students will receive a Spanish Language and Regional Culture Course specially designed to integrate the students into academic and social life. It will be taught in daily three-hour sessions over the course of 4 weeks and aims to familiarise with their cultural surroundings and enable them to go about their daily lives. (60 hours)
- 2nd Module: Spanish Language and Hispanic Culture. In this module, students will participate in Spanish language classes with other international students (a total of 44 contact hours, two 2-hourly sessions per week) and will attend the following workshops (180 hours):
- Literature: the most relevant texts in Spanish Literature. 30 contact hours.
- Writing: writing and analysis of academic, journalistic, commercial, literary and informal texts. 30 contact hours.
- History: the main events throughout Spanish history. Spain and its relationship with Latin America. 20 contact hours.
- Spanish Art: the most important works. 30 contact hours.
- Spanish Music. 15 contact hours.
- Spanish Media and Communications. 15 contact hours.
- Spanish Society and Politics. 30 contact hours.
- Geography of Spain. 10 contact hours.
Level II
Designed for students who have an advanced level of Spanish, participants will study the different disciplines related to Spanish and Latin American culture and perfect their linguistic knowledge.
- 1st Module: Spanish Language and Regional Culture Course. Total Hours: 45 hours (15 hours per week in 3 hour sessions)
- 2nd Module: Workshop on Oral Skills and specific vocabulary. (20 hours) During this course the students will learn to develop their skills in academic contexts. It will provide them with the technical vocabulary necessary to take part in the workshops offered in the 3rd module of this course.
- 3rd Module: Spanish Language and Hispanic Culture. In this module, students will participate in Spanish language classes with other international students (a total of 44 contact hours, two 2-hourly sessions per week) and will attend the following workshops (80 contact hours):
- Literature: the most relevant texts in Spanish Literature. 30 contact hours.
- Writing: writing and analysis of academic, journalistic, commercial, literary and informal texts. 30 contact hours.
- History: the main events throughout Spanish history. Spain and its relationship with Latin America. 20 contact hours.
- Spanish Art: the most important works. 30 contact hours.
- Spanish Music. 15 contact hours.
- Spanish Media and Communications. 15 contact hours.
- Spanish Society and Politics. 30 contact hours.
