I European Meeting on Animal Chlamydioses and Zoonotic Aspects

Invitation message

Dear colleagues:

Welcome to Murcia, Spain and to the First European Meeting on Animal Chlamydiosis and zoonotic aspects (First EMAC 2009). This event is being held at the University Campus of Espinardo, in the Social Centre (CSU) near Murcia town. This will be the first time we meet after our COST ACTION 855 finished last year. The organizers hope that other reunion will be organized within two years in some other European country. The community of chlamydiologists is a family that wishes and must find the time for talking about new advances in the research of Chlamydiaceae. This is the perfect opportunity to do so, in the friendly environment that all of us have created along six years, from the beginning of our COST ACTION in Brussels.

The present meeting has attracted participants from 13 countries worldwide. Abstracts and invited lecturers have been submitted for presentation. Over the course of the EMAC 2009 we have seen some substantial advances in research of animal chlamydioses and this also reflects the interest and quality of this first meeting. The sessions will include scientific and poster presentations encompassing diagnosis, epidemiology, risk factors for zoonotic transmission to human, pathogenesis, molecular biology and immunology.

I would like to thank all the authors for their contributions to these Proceedings and the sponsors for their generous financial support, without which, many of the programmed events would not have been possible. A special thanks also to the Local Organising Committee for giving up their valuable time to help with the organisation of the meeting and production of this Proceeding’s Book. In addition to the scientific programme, the organising committee has also organised a programme of social events that hopefully will leave you with good memories of your visit to Murcia. We hope that some of you will have the opportunity to extend your stay in Spain to visit others parts of our “Levante Español” as Alicante and Valencia cities.

¡Bienvenidos a Murcia queridos amigos clamidiólogos!

Welcome to Murcia dear chlamidiologist friends!

Maria Rosa Caro
