Banks, postal and telephone servicesBanks:In Murcia, there are a number of banking establishments where you can open an account upon arrival. Bear in mind that you will need to present your passport, Student ID card, or in some cases an official student card from the government, in wathever Spanish Bank or "Caja de Ahorro" (savings bank). In winter, the "Cajas de Ahorro" are open from 8:30 to 14:30, Monday through Friday, and from 17:00 to 19:30 on Thursdays. The schedule in the summer is the same, except that the "cajas" do not stay open Thursday evenings. The winter bank schedule is from 8:30 at 14:00 from Monday to Friday and Saturdays from 8:30 to 13:00. Summer hours are the same, except that the banks do not open on Saturdays. Postal Services:The central post office is located next to the Plaza Circular. There is also another post office in "el Barrio del Carmen" in the train station. There are also yellow mailboxes, which are dispersed throughout the city to use at your convenience. Stamps may be bought at tobacconists establishments. Phone Services:Upon your arrival in Murcia, you can use any of the many public telephones located in city. These pay phones work with 10, 20, 50 cents, and 1 and 2 euros coins or with pre-paid phone cards which you can purchase at the tobacconists' and other authorised establishments. In Spain, telephone numbers have 9 digits. Regular telephone numbers start with 9 and mobile phones numbers with 6. Numbers that start with 900 are free and those that start with 901/902/906 indicate special calls. To call Spain from outside the country you must dial +34 + the 9 digit telephone number. |
