Murcia
City
Murcia
is the capital of the homonymous autonomous region, located in South Eastern
Spain, on the Mediterranean. Murcia enjoys fine weather all year around
with average temperatures of 17ºC and more than 3000 hours of sun
per year. Murcia region has 250 kilometres of coastline, part of it virgin
and wild, divided between the Mar Menor and the Mediterranean. Inland
there are orchards, rivers, mountains, vineyards, olive trees, desert-like
areas, spas, etc. It offers a complete range of sports and an interesting
historic-artistic heritage.
In
recent years, Murcia has become increasingly recognised as an attractive
site for Congresses, as well as an alternative tourist destination. The
Cathedral, the Casino, the Salzillo Museum and many other places of interest
form part of an attractive historical and cultural package, as well as
Easter week processions, the Spring Festivals, folklore, the craft industry
and the exceptional Murcian gas-tronomy: zarangollo, rice with vegetables,
prawns from the Mar Menor, auber-gines, paparajotes, etc. These dishes
and many delicious appetisers (tapas) can be enjoyed when going round
any of the many bars found throughout the city, practising the famous
"tapeo".
Murcia is a "made-to-measure" city, ideal for walking, strolling,
feeling at home, enjoying the green spaces (2 million square metres of
gardens), the smell of orange blossom, the pedestrian precincts, or the
wide modern avenues and residential areas surrounding the Segura river.
Current hotel capacity in the city has risen to 3000 beds, in 4, 3 and
2 star hotels, with excellent facilities for your stay. This infrastructure
consists of recently-built hotels or totally renovated ones, most incorporating
conference rooms and meeting halls that can hold up to 600. The number
of hotel beds in the city will soon increase by another 600 in 4 star
hotels.
Murcia is a privileged and hospitable city, a sunshine paradise, light-hearted
and extroverted.
